Garden Wildflower Meadow

Wildlife Photographed in or near my Meadow

The nationally scarce Tawny Mining Bee was often seen in the spring of 2006 over the meadow where it may have been nesting. They were often seen collecting nectar from a Cotoneaster horizontalis bush in the back garden.

Hoverfly species

Pygmy shrew left by my backdoor by one of our cats!

Garden Tiger. A once common moth that is declining through habitat loss.

Common Darter after recently emerging from my back garden pond. Young (teneral) adults like this were seen resting in the long grass in my meadow in June.

This Clouded Yellow visited one of my Buddleja bushes in August 2006. It is important to provide sources of nectar after the meadow has been cut.

This was one of three Poplar Hawk-moth larvae found eating leaves of Balsam Poplar on my garden wildlife hedge in August 2006.
